Feliz Pascua (Happy Easter) Best week of Misión, Cambios
Well before I get into the details of my week, we actually do have cambios (transfers). haha AND……………………..drum roll………………….. I´M GOING TO POTOSI!!!!!!!!!!!! Altitude 13,420 feet (4,090 m) my area is the highest altitude proselyting area in the world. I am opening an area called Delicia 2 that was closed with a Elder Medina de Peru. I have never been so excited and nervous in my life. AAAAAAHAHAHA I spent the whole day washing my clothes and then went to Luigi´s (the P-Day hang out spot for the Cochabamba missionaries) and said bye to everyone. I will probably be in Potosi for 6 months and though the winter, and it will be C.O.L.D. the way I like it. In Bella Vista the week before Easter the Catholics celebrate a week called Semana Santa or Holy Week, when everything is closed and everyone is home. It’s the golden time for the missionaries to work. We were able to talk to tons of people about the Savior and what really is Easter. Miercoles (Wednesday), The Ants We had a district service activity in the Hermanas area. The Hermanas have a member who is really old and her daughter is super sick, they have a ton of problems with their house and with their land so we spent the whole day helping her family. I spent the whole day digging a really long canal with three other missionaries. I was really enjoying myself tell I accidentally hacked an ant hill. I didn’t even notice I had done anything tell the ants were in my pants! Needless to say the dance they received was probably pretty amusing. Jueves (Thursday), companion exchanges After the service Wednesday night we had inter-cambios or companionship exchanges. I was with an Elder Davey. Wednesday night when we got to the house Elder Davey happily informed me that he was super sick this morning with a fever and was throwing up. I didn’t think much of it until the next morning when I woke up with a fever and wanted to throw up. We checked my temperature and it was at 100. So I was stuck in the house all day. It is so hard to be sick when you just want to go out and work. With a good night’s sleep I was back to normal and was out working the next day. Easter Sunday This year our branch was a really lucky, and had the opportunity to have our Branch Conference the same day as Easter. And to top it all off when we got to church Sunday and President and Hermana Hansen decided to come to our branch this Sunday. I have never seen the members there work so hard on an activity. Most of the members in our area grow flowers for a living so they all contributed tons of flowers. The sacrament room was so full of every type of flower you could thing of, the best smelling sacrament meeting I have ever been to, for the flowers and the chocolates a member made. The chocolates were made by a young man who is leaving on his mission in a month. The theme was to make the Sabbath day a delight, so he made chocolates for all the members. All of the members spent forever cleaning and the chapel and preparing the gifts. In the end, of their hard work paid off and the spirit was so strong in the meeting. What a great way to end my time in Bella vista. Well tomorrow I get on a plane at six in the morning to Sucre, and from Sucre, a super super long bus ride to Delicia Potosi. Spiritual thought I realized Sunday, as members of the church that we don’t really think about why exactly we go to church on Sunday. We know that we need to keep the Sabbath holy and go to church, but why Sunday? In the bible it talks about the 7th day of the creation being the day the Lord set as the Sabbath, but the seventh day of the week is a Saturday. For people of other religions it is difficult for them to go to church Sunday because for them the Sabbath is Saturday. If we really knew why the Sabbath is Sunday it would not be a problem. In the guide of the scriptures in Spanish it says “Before the resurrection of Christ, the members of the church and also the Jews observed the Sabbath day as the last day of the week. After the resurrection of Christ, the members of the church, observed the Sabbath day the first day of the week, to remember the resurrection of the Lord. We go to church Sunday because Sunday is the day the Lord was Resurrected. This week of Easter we spend rejoicing in the Atonement and Resurrection of the Lord, but in reality, Easter is every week, because the purpose of the Sabbath day is to partake of the sacrament and remember the Resurrection of our Savior. I love you all and I hope that your Easter was full of the spirit and remembrance of the Saviors love. And to remember that the truth is as we go to church every Sunday we are really celebrating Easter. See you next week in Potosi!!
